Fun things to do on a rainy Mother’s Day in Concord, NH

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there!  I really hope it was a joy had by all.  Being a mom is truly one of the greatest blessings and jobs in the world.  So this morning I overheard my two boys discussing ideas of where they wanted to take me for Mother’s Day.  It was sweet of them to put so much thought into it, although I would’ve been happy staying home and enjoying their hugs.  But I know my boys, and they’re not the kind to want to stay home, so I had to think of something to do and fast.  It didn’t help knowing the day was going to be a wash out. But there was no way I was going to allow a bit of rain and wind to wash out the day for us.  I thought…why not go to Concord for part of the day.  We could see the historical sights, which were amazingly free.  Walk down Eagle Square where there are a variety of restaurants to choose from.  Our oldest son thought ‘The Vibe” might be a good pick.  He would be right.  The burgers were cooked to perfection and the fries were amazing.  I have to say I was surprised to eat so many of them today, because I’m not normally a french fry eater, but these had just the right amount of salt and they weren’t too soft or crispy.  There were so many different types of burgers to choose from, plus they had chicken dishes or salads if you preferred those items.  The atmosphere was comfy with couches and tables in the back for a little more privacy and comfort.  I was happy with our sons choice to come here.  My youngest child enjoyed walking  past the historic buildings and reading about George Hamilton in front of the Statehouse.  I was proud to hear him reading everything…including the dates of things that took place.  We spent a good twenty minutes walking past the State Library, The Post Office, and State Capital building.  The best part of the trip was that it cost us nothing.  I was able to take a few great shots even.  We visited a local park with nice views of the Merrimack river; along with being able to see the State Capital across the way.  To top off our end of the afternoon trip, we decided to stop at a friendly and delicious pastry shop known as ‘The Crust and Crumb.”  I highly recommend visiting this spot if you’re ever in the Concord, NH area.  It was hands down fantastic.  As we got into the car, my heart melted in hearing our oldest son Nicholas say he had a fun time.  The trip was a success, and I was a happy mom.  Remember…if you’re looking for a free activity to do in New Hampshire on a stormy blustery day, then visiting the historical sights of Concord is the way to go.  By the way…it only cost $1.00 for one macaroon or three for $2.99.  They are a good size and worth the price.  The Vibe is also a restaurant within budget, so be sure to check it out.

Logan’s favorite stop point was Sir George Hamilton. 🙂
Awesome view of the State Capital and the Merrimack River
More amazing view of the Merrimack River;)
Pretty park we found by the Merrimack River in Concord, NH
Great place to visit on a rainy Mother’s Day. 😉 New Hampshire Historical Society. Closed on Sundays, but open Monday through Friday and it’s free to explore.
Old Post Office. Love the beauty and uniqueness of this building. Had to capture this picture.

Until next time…
